“Choose you this day whom ye will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” β€” Joshua 24:15

What You’ll Hear

Edwin Poots grew up with a rare privilege β€” not wealth or status, but godly parents who taught him the ways of the Lord from his earliest days. A mother who opened the Scriptures to him. A father who knelt at the bedside and prayed. Faith Mission pilgrims who drummed the gospel into him at every opportunity.

And at just five years of age, he made the most important decision of his life: accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his own personal Saviour. He remembers it as clearly today as the day it happened.

But knowing Christ as a child and living for Him as a young man proved to be two different things. At school, surrounded by “townies” and later at agricultural college β€” where the principal warned that most lads learned two things, how to drink and how to smoke β€” Edwin faced the same challenge every young believer faces: hide your light under a bushel, or take your stand.

He chose to stand. And it was, he says, the best decision after getting saved that he ever made. From bringing a friend to a gospel campaign and watching him come to Christ, to finding himself in positions of public responsibility he never sought β€” positions that gave him a platform to speak for the Lord in places most believers never reach β€” God has proven faithful at every turn.
