Dear Praying Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I regret to inform you that Brother Wesley Irvine  was called home to be with the Lord at 5.40pm, 28th April, 2022, peacefully, at the Ulster Hospital after a short illness.

As a church family, Carryduff Free Presbyterian Church deeply regrets Wesley’s sudden passing and would like to express their deepest sympathy to the entire Irvine family circle.

Wesley was a beloved husband of Rita, loving father of Sharon, Kyle, Glenn, Julie-Anne, Heather and Caroline, father-in-law of David, Susan, Claire, Simon and Andrew, much-loved grandfather of Megan, Jonathan, Matilda, Timothy, Anya and Ailsa and dear brother of Muriel, Stanley, Fred, Eileen and the late Brian and Victor.

This is a big blow to us all in Carryduff FPC as it is to Wesley’s immediate and extended family.  We know that the road ahead is going to be difficult for everyone affected. John Wesley Irvine, as he was officially known, born 19th Novermber 1933, was a past member of Martyrs Memorial before transferring to Carryduff when the work was constituted as a congregation. As a foundation member he was highly respected among the people. A faithful attendee of the Lord’s Day Services along with his wife Rita and six children. He also frequented the weekly prayer meetings. He passionately believed in the power of prayer and a life of power and victory in Christ. His voice will be missed in our prayer sessions and his seat will be empty.

While we rejoice that many years ago he trusted the Saviour whom he loved and loyally served, now, he is absent from the body and present with the Lord. I have no doubt that his loss will be keenly felt by all that knew him. Wesley was well known throughout the Carryduff community and was highly regarded as an honourable, honest hard working individual, before and after his retirement from Ulsterbus. He had a good sense of humour but never suffered fools gladly. Please pray for his sorrowing family at this hour and in the days and weeks ahead.

The funeral will take place on Monday the 2nd May at 12:30pm in Carryduff Free Presbyterian Church. Pastor to Wesley for the past 23 years, the Rev. David McLaughlin will conduct the service.

After the service, the funeral cortege will proceed to Ballycairn Presbyterian Church graveyard for another short service of committal. The graveside service is open to all. The family plans to be at the graveyard approximately 1:30pm.

Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Ward 16 (Ulster Hospital) and Carryduff Free Presbyterian Church. Please make cheques payable to ‘Norman McBriar & Son’ Funeral Directors, 37 Saintfield Mill, Saintfield, BT24 7FH.

House private.

God saw you getting weary
When a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you,
and whispered, “Come to me”.
