Death Notice of Rev. Colin McFarland

With profound sadness, Carryduff Free Presbyterian Church extends our deepest sympathies to the McFarland family on the passing of Rev Colin McFarland on Friday, 20th June 2025, late of Avondale Court, Coleraine. A beloved husband of the late Amy and the late Jean McFarland, much-loved father of Colin, Stuart, and the late Lynn, and devoted father-in-law to Christina and Angela. He was a cherished grandfather to William, Angel, Daniel, Andy, and Billy, and a dear brother to Ian and Mavis.

Rev McFarland, affectionately known as Rev Mac, was a faithful servant of the Lord, saved at the age of nine with a heart set on missionary work. His love for Christ shone through his unwavering commitment to the Gospel, preaching Christ crucified as a Belfast City Missioner during the Troubles and later as minister of Coleraine Congregational Church until his retirement. A gracious minister with a deep love for souls, he lived to see many come to faith in Christ. Even after retirement, he continued to preach and sing, including a recent visit to Carryduff FPC where he sang The Home of the Soul alongside his long-time friend Rev Fred Greenfield, reaching 32,000 listeners. At 85 and 90, he released two CDs, and just hours before his passing, he held his newly published book, “AN ADVENTURE WITH GOD”, surrounded by family.

Despite recent illness, Rev McFarland remained steadfast, a champion for truth and righteousness until he was called home to the Lord. His legacy of faith, rooted in the old paths, will endure in the hearts of his family, friends, and countless lives touched by his ministry.

The funeral and thanksgiving service will take place at Newtownards Congregational Church on Monday, 30th June 2025, at 10:30 am, followed by committal at Clandeboye Cemetery, Bangor, and refreshments in the church hall.

Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, may be sent to Belfast City Mission c/o S Clarke and Son Funeral Directors, 12 Court Square, Newtownards, BT23 7NY.

Loved and sadly missed by his family and friends. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15). “In Christ” – an adventure with God (Romans 8:28).
