STATEMENT BY MISSION BOARD 26/9/2026

As has been widely reported on the news media, there has been serious and devastating flooding in Nepal, near to the Tibetan border. This has caused substantial damage to the infrastructure and to property across a large region, but especially has resulted in the loss of many lives, with many still being unaccounted for. As a Mission Board, we are keeping in touch with our contacts there, who are familiar with this region. There are connected church fellowships in the area directly effected and the floods are heading towards areas where there are church works. There is an urgent need for financial assistance to help with the humanitarian aid relief and so the Mission Board have sent funds immediately to assist at this early stage. We will await reports to determine how we may help further. Please pray for those directly effected, those who have lost loved ones and those who have lost their homes. Pray for the country as a whole at this very difficult time.

UPDATE 31/9/2026
News reports from Nepal are heartbreaking, with over 700 dead, 3,000 missing and 10,000 families with no homes. There are now over 20,000 security forces in the border region, working to try to find and rescue any survivors. The damage to roads and bridges, together with the difficult terrain make these efforts very difficult. There are fears of further flooding and this makes the recovery work more challenging.

We have received reports from our partners in FPC Nepal and other friends who work there. While there are no FPC Churches in the border region, there are several churches further down the river towards Chitwan. Sadly it is now reported that several people from those churches, who were working in the affected area, are now reported missing.

Sadly many of the other churches in the area have been devastated โ€“ in both the Rashuwa and Nuwakot areas, it has been reported that over 100 believers are dead or missing from 15-20 churches, and many of the church buildings have been damaged or destroyed.

At this stage it is not possible to travel to the affected areas so our partners are preparing for aid distribution as soon as possible and their desire is to distribute relief to those who have been directly impacted by this disaster.

Please pray for those who have lost loved ones, those who are waiting to hear from family members who are missing and those who have been displaced by this disaster. Pray for the rescue workers and pray for the country as a whole at this very difficult time.

UPDATE 1/9/2026

Nepal’s death toll has exceeded 1,000 after last week’s devastating floods, and officials say over 4,000 are missing. Rescue efforts continue despite the heavy rains and risk of further flooding.

In conjunction with our partners in Nepal, the Mission Board have now launched an Emergency Aid Appeal to provide aid for the area. It is planned that our friends in Kathmandu will travel to the affected areas and distribute aid, including tents, rice and other food and blankets. Your help to provide the necessary funds will be greatly appreciated as we try to do all we can to help the needy people of Nepal.
