Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Tea Party

On 3rd June 2022, the more senior members, adherents and friends of our church gathered at 2PM to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Behind the scenes, Mrs. Rosemary McLaughlin had spent countless hours, days and weeks in preparation for this royal event in baking, table decorations and regalia, while directing her husband at the same time, surely a job only a woman could do!

Over 80 members and friends gathered for this special occasion, being welcomed with Mr. Laurence Crawford playing the organ, and Her Majesty welcoming everyone in the foyer ;-).  The tea party began with the singing of hymns of thanksgiving, ably led by Rev. Fred Greenfield on the accordion. Rev. David McLaughlin gave thanks for the long reign of Her Majesty, for those involved in the preparation of the afternoon and for the food.

Guests were treated to a Royal English Tea served in vintage china, traditional sandwiches, pancakes, wheaten, scones with homemade and homegrown jam and cream, rock buns, a selection of sweet treats, sponge cake, rose lemonade and to finish, a jelly trifle. Each one went home with an afternoon party favour.

To close the afternoon celebrations, the guests sang a selection of favourite hymns finishing with “What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see”. After thanksgiving remarks by Mr. George Anderson and Mr. Wilfred Crawford, Rev. McLaughlin closed in prayer and the gathering stood to sing God Save Our Queen.

We would like to thank all those that were able to attend, for Rosemary and her tireless preparation in all aspects of the event, for Rev. Greenfield for leading the singing, and for all those involved behind the scenes helping Rosemary to make the afternoon such a success.
