Death Notice of Dr. John Douglas

Dear Friends of Carryduff

It is with profound sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of our highly-esteemed fellow minister, member of Presbytery, former Clerk of Presbytery for many years, first Principal of the Whitefield College of the Bible, and Senior Minister of our Lisburn Congregation, Dr. John Douglas.

Like many others, I had the privilege of training for the ministry under the tutelage of this great man of God. There were many wonderful memories and precious times in the Lord’s Presence. I had the additional privilege of serving my ministerial assistantship with Dr. Douglas in the Lisburn Church. J.D, as he was affectionately known, was a stalwart for our Lord Jesus Christ and a Mr. Valiant for the Truth of God’s Precious Word in the Gospel. He loved the Book and Lived by it. Every word to him was pure, precious, and powerful. One of the greatest things he taught me was to possess a deeper love for Christ and his inspired inerrant Holy Word.

As you may have been aware, Dr. Douglas was recently taken ill, and earlier this morning he went home to be with His Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ. As we sorrow, we give thanks to Almighty God for what His grace made Dr. Douglas to be among us as His faithful servant throughout such a lengthy ministry. Just a few hours ago, he surely heard the Lord’s ‘well done’ as he was welcomed home to Heaven.

Officially on your behalf, I extend to his sorrowing wife and family the condolences of the Carryduff Congregation assuring them of our deepest and prayerful sympathy.

In Christ Jesus

Rev. David Gerald McLaughlin
Minister of Carryduff FPC
